You may have heard the term ‘Blue Monday’ flying around over the last few days. That is because, supposedly today: Monday 18th January is said to be the most depressing and miserable day of the year.

Christmas is now a distant memory, Spring is still a while off. The weather, let’s face it – is NOT amazing and with another national lockdown thrown into the mix, this Monday might be a little bluer than ever.

But… of course that does not have to be a case. There are a whole load of ways we can dust ourselves off, get ourselves up and moving to feel a little more positive today (and everyday!. Here are my favourite:

1. Get yourself moving. Of course you all probably knew that this would be at the top of my list. But there really is no denying that exercise can have amazing, positive effects on not only our physical but very importantly during this time, our mental health as well. Endorphins are known as the body’s natural pain killers. These are released during exercise instantly making you feel more happy and positive and ready to attack the day. Did you catch my LIVE workout on IGTV this morning? If not, head here: https://www.instagram.com/niix.fit/?hl=en to catch up!

2. Practice gratitude. There is nothing that makes us feel better than really reflecting and appreciating what we have. Yes times are incredibly tough at the moment, but I can’t tell you how fantastic practicing gratitude is with regards to our mental and positive wellbeing. Simply thinking of a few things everyday that you are grateful for, writing them down or storing them in your mind. Think of what makes you happy and what brings you joy. Everyday pay just 5/10 minutes of appreciation to these certain things, I can promise you you will instantly feel better!

3. Connect with loved ones. You do not have to feel alone today, or any day for that matter! If you are feeling particularly low be sure to reach out to your loved ones and give yourself an opportunity to laugh today. Laughter really is the best medicine and we really are better together (even If it is over the internet or a phone call for the moment!)

4. Be productive. There is nothing like the feeling of being organized and on top of your plans. Whether that’s with work, your meal prep, your exercise schedule or ideally all three. Take some time today to think about how you can finish the month strong and work towards your goals. Nothing beats feeling motivated to become a better version of ourselves, sometimes it just takes a little forward planning to get the ball rolling. Remember how far you have come, celebrate your victories (no matter how small) and dig deep to finish this long month strong, we CAN do this!
